Are you a physically active person who enjoys spending time outdoors? Then this may be the breed for you. Are you a person who enjoys the challenges of training a highly intelligent dog? Then definitely consider this breed. On the other hand, if you do not have the time to ensure proper daily physical exercise and training, then you should consider another breed. That adorable puppy will soon grow into a physically and mentally tough adult and you need to be able and prepared to raise it.
Weimaraners are high energy, versatile, endurance athletes of the dog world with a remarkable intellect. They are a German hunting dog developed to hunt both fur and feather, retrieve on land and in water and track. They demand daily exercise in a safe, fenced-in area where they can run. A stroll around the block is not sufficient for this breed.
They are problem-solvers at heart so be prepared to mentally engage a Weim throughout its life. The best ways to stimulate the mind of a Weim is through training. And if you enjoy competitions, then you may want to consider training and competing in agility, conformation, hunting, obedience, retrieving and tracking, although there are many other performance events worth exploring.
